The Walking Dead Coming to the PS Vita Sometime This Year

TellTale’s award winning spin on The Walking Dead will arrive on the PlayStation Vita sometime this year. According to PlayStation’s Director of Product and Platform Software Innovation, Don Mesa, the game will definitely make the jump over to Sony’s strugglinghandheld, though no release date has been determined.

Mesa mused on the thrills of Telltale’s successful adventure game, and admitted getting a series like The Walking Dead is a huge boon for the platform. Mesa believes the Vita in particular will provide a special experience, calling Vita’s portability important.

Sony’s Vita has seen a slight resurgence in Japan over the past month thanks to a price dropbut, overall, it hasn’t quite been the runaway success Sony would have liked—so far. The Walking Dead will surely be a big incentive to dust the old Vita off, even if you’ve already taken Lee and Clementine for a spin.

PS Vita price cut: both 3G and WiFi models reduced to 19,980 yen (around $215) in Japan starting Feb. 28th

SCEJ President Hiroshi Kawano introduced a PS Vita info session earlier today. Detailing "everyone's PlayStation Vita," he announced a price drop for Japanese models right from the outset. Starting from February 28th, the price will drop down to 19,980 yen for both the 3G (previously 30,000 yen) and WiFi (once 25,000 yen) models. Yep, both will receive a substantial price-cut alongside a a 7-day free trial of PS Plus (including Uncharted, Ridge Racer and four more titles free during February), plus a free download campaign for its Torne TV service until the end of March. No word on whether the rest of the world will benefit from the same price reduction, but we've got in touch with Sony Computer Entertainment to check. Maybe we'll hear more on Wednesday.

Update: And SCE aren't saying anything more about those price drops elsewhere -- you can wait two days, right?

PS Vita v1.80 update now available, PSOne titles for download revealed

Of all the new features in firmware version 1.80 we're pretty sure that the ability to play PSOne classicswas fairly high on people's want-list. Well, the update is live, and with it a list of the titles available. There are nine on offer today for US Vita owners, which are: Arc the LadCool Boarders 2Final Fantasy VII,Hot Shots Golf 2Jet MotoSyphon FilterTomb RaiderTwisted Metal 2 and Wild Arms, with hopefully more to follow. This is in stark contrast to what's available over the pond, as Kotaku points out, with over 100 titles hitting European shores from tomorrow -- somewhat of an imbalance. But, with Sony said to be targeting a younger crowd, maybe it's banking on some of them not remembering the PlayStation's golden age.

PS Vita firmware update adds button controls, iTunes playlists and more

If you're a Vita owner, then this week must feel like running through rain of joy, as new features and functionality keep coming. Well, why not splash in a puddle or two along the way, as we learn what treats the next firmware update for the handheld -- version 1.80 -- will bring. First up is the ability to use the console's buttons on the home screen and within some applications -- yeah really! In addition to that mind-bomb, you'll also be able to fast-forward and rewind video, import playlists from the PS3 and iTunes (10.6.3 or later) as well as use the rear touchpad for scrolling and zooming in the browser. There's a bunch of other minor tweaks, too, just skip down to the source for the breakdown or wait until "late August" for the download.
